Ait Said School, El Baraka Angels, Dayet Aoua 2015

The school is in Dayet Aoua, a village on the edge of lake Dayet Aoua, located in about 15 km from north Ifrane. The area is wet and cold in winter, with a mild climate and continental tendency in summer and the schools conditions were bad.

The core of the project was to find an economical but sustainable way to offer two new class rooms to the children. The proposed construction elements are local made: the envelope is formed by a double partition system in terracotta bricks that limit the winter losses and the windows and doors are doubled by a system of wind breezes. They provide good ventilation and sufficient light to limit artificial lighting. The classes have a single slope roof to allow a more economical evacuation of rainwater and snow and are built on a stone base putting the walls bases away from water and snow in the winter seasons.

The whole project is under the direction of El Baraka Angels, a moroccan charity group.

Scope: New build / Duration: 6 months / Services: Feasibility to technnical / Status: Complete
